October in Texas means it is time for the Lone Star Smockers’ Annual Garage Sale in Colleyville at Wendy’s house. We take the proceeds from our garage sale to buy materials to make the smocked gowns that we donate to our local hospitals, to purchase fabrics for pillowcases that we donate to Cook Children’s Hospital, and to hire teachers to visit us and advance our needlework skills and knowledge. The garage sale is now our only fundraiser.
Our fundraiser chairperson, Lisa, contacted the Colleyville Market Street and they were gracious to help us again this year. They provided a gift card that we used for our lunch. We picked up a delectable tray of sandwiches, bottled water, fruit, and cookies at lunchtime. United Supermarkets has a group called the U-Crew. These amazing people donate their time to help various organizations in the community where they work and live. This year they chose to help us at our garage sale.
We want to thank the Market Street U-Crew (Tammy Deauman and the other kind people) who showed up early on Saturday morning and helped us get set up before the crowd arrived. These people were very friendly, helpful, and fun to be around. They certainly enhanced our time together and kept things moving, helping customers with their purchases, finding things to promote, and generally keeping the mood fun and upbeat.
Thank you to all the ladies who donated items to sell, cooked cookies and brownies to sell, obtained donations, helped set up and price items, worked the garage sale, helped box up and haul off the leftovers, made and posted all the signs, did the advertising, and so many other things to make this annual event another success. A special thanks to Lisa for working with the Colleyville Market Street and U-Crew and Wendy and her husband for allowing us to invade their home and set up the “stuff” that we sold. We’re not sure if any of our customers will see this but we are thankful they came and helped us out. Well done to all who participated!
