In April the Lone Star Smockers were happy to have Gail Doane come to our part of the country and teach us again. This year we had a 2 day class on how to make the Ivory Silk Beaded and Smocked Dress. The following pictures of this beautiful creations were taken from Gail’s Etsy Shop:
This dress has so many unique features. First of all, no smocking threads are seen on the front of the dress. All those diamonds you see are actually back smocked. The sash carrier at the waist features every stitch smocked with a bead so no threads are showing. There is beading along the edges of the front scallop and also the sleeves. We each had a variety of colors from which to choose so there will be many different appearing dresses when we are all finished.
The last day of class we were taught the Primrose Bishop, which was featured on the cover of a book called ‘Beautiful Bishops”. This dress was made from Swiss Voile. This was cut and pleated during the 6 hour class. Here is a picture of that dress:
We spent Thursday and Friday working on the first dress and here are a few pictures from those two days:
Then on Saturday the Bishop dress was taught and here is a picture from that day, showing how to block the dress:

When Gail leaves we are all smarter because we have learned new tricks and techniques, and all further behind on things we need to finish! Thanks Gail for another wonderful teaching session. You are always a pleasure to have and an inspiration.
